In your opinion, how much arable land do you really consume?

In Luxembourg, a resident currently uses almost 4,000 m² of land, much of which is imported. However, if the world’s 1.6 billion hectares of farmland were divided up, each person would have access to 2,000 m². This space would be enough to grow the essentials: bread, potatoes, fruit, vegetables, as well as animal feed for meat, milk and eggs (not forgetting that animal feed is partly derived from arable land), not forgetting tobacco and cotton. This 2,000 m² plot of farmland actually exists, close to the Maison de la Nature in Kockelscheuer, organised by IBLA, natur&ëmwelt and co-labor.

At the LUGA exhibition, this global phenomenon will be reflected on a smaller scale, with raised garden beds featuring a recipe such as Bouneschlupp or a burger to illustrate the resources grown in an urban environment. These local plants and seasonal produce demonstrate that it is possible to integrate food production into cities, contributing to sustainable and accessible agriculture.
