As part of the organisation of LUGA – Luxembourg Urban Garden national exhibition scheduled for 2025, LUGA asbl, in collaboration with Luxembourg City, is planning to revitalise the Park Odendahl.
A public consultation was carried out to gather the impressions of the residents of Luxembourg City on the Odendahl Park in Pfaffenthal, to plan its renovation in the years to come. The consultation had a remarkable turnout, with a total of 348 participants, including 101 residents of the Pfaffenthal district, representing 8% of the neighbourhood.
The results of the survey reveal a number of interesting habits in terms of park visits. 58% of participants visit the park at least once a week, illustrating the importance of this green space in their daily lives. Furthermore, 30% of participants live or work less than five minutes from the park, while 49% are around ten minutes away. The majority, 66%, choose to walk to the park, while 16% prefer to cycle. However, most visitors spend no more than thirty minutes in the park.
I don’t think I’d enjoy living here if we didn’t have this park. – Dirk
These figures highlight the park’s central role in urban life and residents’ everyday commutes. According to the residents, biodiversity and sustainability should be promoted, relaxation areas preserved and the park’s infrastructure and sports field improved.
Following the results of this consultation, LUGA, in collaboration with Luxembourg City, will begin sketching out the future lines of the Odendahl Park next autumn. The first sketches will be presented at a later date.
