The work of the Swedish artist Henrik Hakansson (b. 1968 in Helsingborg, lives and works in Berlin and Falkenberg, Sweden) is based on the observation and recording of natural phenomena that study our everyday attention. By making these hidden or secret visible interactions, it posits the possibility of a dialogue between humans, animals and nature.
The installation A Painting for Insects #002 is part of a series of experimental structures co-created with different animal species such as birds, bees or snails. Taking their cue from Minimal Art and Color Field painting, these works attempt to bridge the gap between nature and culture, form and function, object and art. By providing a habitat for butterflies and other insects found in the Petrusse Valley, this painting-as-ecosphere reactions to the need to rethink artistic practice in the era of mass extinction.
