As part of LUGA 2025 and the celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of the Octave in Luxembourg, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame will shine in a festive splendour.
In this special year, the floral decoration and adornment of the cathedral will be carried out by the floristry students of the Lycée Technique Agricole.
From May 14 to 23, they will contribute significantly to the spiritual and cultural atmosphere of the long-standing Octave celebrations with their creative work. Taking part in such a major event represents a unique and exciting challenge for the future florists.
Our inspiration came from the Gothic architectural style of the cathedral. Typical of Gothic architecture are delicate, vertically oriented structures – this concept served as the foundation for the floral design. This led to the creation of a tall, spindle-shaped structure made of ivy, complemented by parallel arrangements of white lilies.
Why lilies? The lily is considered a symbol of Gothic art and also stands for purity – it is the traditional flower of the Virgin Mary.
The planning, preparation, and execution of this special project were carried out in close collaboration between the students and various departments of the LTA – under the leadership of the floristry department and in cooperation with Par Lëtzebuerg Notre-Dame. This project was made possible thanks to the generous financial support of LUGA and Par Lëtzebuerg Notre-Dame.
