The Luxembourg Pavilion at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia is an invitation to close our eyes and actively listen. The installation, Sonic Investigations, marks a radical shift away from the visual: it offers a cartography of various environments exclusively through sound.

Envisioned as a satellite event in Luxembourg to the Biennale, and part of LUGA, Listening Along the Edge continues these explorations into the sonic with a one-day festival and sound installation. Taking place in the former fort of Obergrünewald, in the Parc des Trois Glands of Kirchberg, the event shifts our attention towards giving voices to the built and natural environments around us, making the invisible audible.

Conceived as a site-specific sound installation in dialogue with the fort, the Grünewald forest, and the contemporary architecture of the city, Ecotonalities: No Other Home Than the In-Between by Ludwig Berger will be the central element of the festival. Commissioned for the Luxembourg Pavilion in Venice, the sound piece now returns to its recorded territory, attuning listeners to the frictions and co-existences within the environment.

An adaptive and inviting scenography will host a series of Interludes, punctuating the installation with performative and reflexive interventions together with local and international practitioners across various disciplines. Focusing on multi-perspective listening, each activation will create a different dialogue between the installation, the performers, the listeners, and their surroundings.
