In December 2022, during the winter solstice, Franco-Luxembourgish artist duo Katarzyna Kot and Stéphane Guiran travelled to the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland, the second largest glacier in Europe, which they regard as a Great Living Being carrying a millennia-old memory. In the heart of the night, they question this Being-Place and create a work of light that invites us to rekindle the flame of hope for a different future: The night is a white page.

The approach of Katarzyna Kot and Stéphane Guiran regarding the Great Living Beings offers a new perspective on the climate uncertainties we face, encouraging us to learn how to walk on a melting world and rethink our way of inhabiting the Earth by repairing our connection to the living.

The G&K duo was formed in 2022 as part of the art season at the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, an art and nature center in France, where both artists were invited to exhibit. Katarzyna Kot’s work focuses on her deep connection to the vegetal world, nurtured by Luxembourgish forests. Stéphane Guiran’s creations, stemming from his bond with the mineral world, offer poetic journeys through immersive installations. The Vatnajökull glacier is the first Great Living Being they set out to meet, and the resulting art works were presented under the curatorship of Jean-Marc Dimanche.
