Demonstration of agricultural crops

The agricultural facilities at Däichwisen consist of demonstration plantations of the different plant species grown in Luxembourgish fields. The main theme of these facilities is cultivation techniques, with activities such as comparisons between conventional and mechanical weeding, demonstrations of innovative technologies, and many other equally exciting workshops.

By crossing a movable bridge linking a diverse urban area – used as a sports ground, for fairs and sporting competitions – to the world of agriculture, visitors will plunge into the fascinating world of Luxembourg’s cultures.

The facilities also feature emblematic plants grown in Luxembourg, such as wheat and potatoes, various varieties of herbs and maize, as well as more unusual crops such as tea, hemp, flax, buckwheat, rape and mustard. Let yourself be amazed by all the facets of Luxembourgish agriculture!

Animals will also be on show at certain weekends at the Däichwisen, offering a complete immersion in the rural world.

The various demonstration plantations at LUGA Nordstad

LTA (Agricultural Technical College)
→ Organisation and preparation of the land, sowing of winter and summer cereals, potato cultivation.
ASTA (Administration des Services Techniques de l’Agriculture)
→ Presentation of different varieties of corn and ancient grain mixtures (Grieser).
IBLA (Institut fir biologësch Landwirtschaft an Agrarkultur Luxemburg)
→ Legume cultivation, in connection with organic farming and living soils.
Ourdaller SC
→ Promotion of oilseed crops such as hemp, mustard, poppy and local wild species.
Téi vum Séi
→ Presentation of medicinal and aromatic plants, cultivated using sustainable methods.

Lycée Technique Agricole

Founded in 1883, the Lycée Technique Agricole (LTA) was originally known as the Agricultural School of Ettelbruck before becoming a secondary school specializing in natural and agricultural sciences. The school, which moved to Gilsdorf in 2021, trains its students to become future foresters, farmers, gardeners, and agricultural and construction machinery mechanics.

ASTA

The Administration of Technical Agricultural Services (ASTA) is a public body in Luxembourg that supports the development of the agricultural sector by promoting technical progress, productivity, the quality of animal and plant productions, and fostering cooperation among farmers. It is involved in key areas such as rural development, mechanization, agricultural infrastructure, rural roads, the environment, and agricultural meteorology.

ASTA also oversees the quality control of agricultural products and production means, ensures the enforcement of national and European regulations, and actively participates in shaping community agricultural policies.

IBLA

IBLA (Institut fir Biologesch Landwirtschaft an Agrarökologie Luxembourg) is the competence centre for research and consultancy in the field of organic farming, organic viticulture and agroecology in Luxembourg. Areas of interest include protecting natural resources (water, soil, climate) and biodiversity, assessing sustainability, preserving and improving soil fertility, variety testing, animal welfare and optimising crop rotation.

Ourdaller

For the past 25 years, farmers in the Our Nature Park (Ourdaller) have been growing mustard, rapeseed, sunflower, flax, hemp, poppy, buckwheat, and more in their fields. These raw materials are then processed in their facilities in Kalborn or the surrounding area to create high-quality food products.

Téi vum Séi

The aromatic herbs by Téi vum Séi have been grown in the Haute-Sûre Nature Park since 1992. The ‘Kraidergenossenschaft Naturpark Uewersauer’ was founded in 1993 as part of a LEADER initiative, and since then this cooperative has been involved in growing, processing and marketing aromatic and medicinal herbs. Most of the plants used in the ‘Téi vum Séi’ products are grown on the cooperative members’ own fields, while others grow wild.
