On Thursday, 5 June, the Residence of the British Ambassador, H.E. Joanne Olivier, will exceptionally open its doors to the public to celebrate the LUGA exhibition in its garden. This rare and unique occasion offers a special opportunity to discover a discreet green space tucked away in the heart of Luxembourg City, offering breathtaking views over the Pétrusse Valley, dotted with various LUGA installations.
Located at 16 Boulevard Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Residence will welcome visitors free of charge, subject to mandatory prior registration due to limited capacity. Each participant is kindly asked to register individually via this link.
The Garden of the British Residence
Tucked behind this historic townhouse lies a discreet garden, hidden from street view, that has evolved over the decades. Each ambassador has left their mark, adding new ideas and personal touches. Highlights include a rose garden paying tribute to Luxembourg’s horticultural heritage, seasonal plantings in solidarity with Ukraine, and a growing focus on sustainability and biodiversity.
Recent work has aimed to restore the garden’s structure, enhance its year-round appeal, and promote local biodiversity through the addition of bird boxes and an insect hotel. The Residence has long collaborated with local schools and communities to raise environmental awareness and encourage shared stewardship of the space. The result is a light-filled, fragrant garden, designed for both reflection and hospitality—a hidden gem where heritage, sustainability, and civic engagement come together.
Guided Tours Led by Eco-Agents
The garden tours, focused on sustainability and biodiversity, will be led by young eco-agents from St George’s International School. These primary and secondary students will not only highlight the garden’s environmentally friendly features but will also present their own projects in support of sustainable development.
According to Embassy representatives, the day promises a unique experience combining nature, education, and a fresh perspective on sustainability through the eyes of the next generation. This initiative is part of the broader LUGA programme, which celebrates urban greening and innovation in all its forms across the city, from 7 May to 18 October 2025.
