Voyage au pays des arbres, d’après un texte de J.M.G Le Clézio

Voyage au pays des arbres is an adaptation of J.M.G. Le Clézio’s tale of the same name. A bored little boy decides one day to travel to the land of trees. As he knows the language of trees, he will gradually tame them by walking slowly, sitting in a clearing and whistling gently a single note. It is then a wonderful journey into the secret world of trees, which move their roots and branches, talk, sing and dance under the light of the moon. We discover them joyful, mischievous, serious, sometimes angry but always happy to find their friend, the little boy, to have fun with him and to protect him.

Voyage au pays des arbres is first of all the meeting between the poetry of J.M.G. Le Clézio and solitary walks in the forests of the Aure Valley. Then there are explorations of impressions and sensations with a musician, an actress and a visual artist, through long walks in the forest. Then comes the time to share this text with children, in theatre, dance and puppet workshops in France and Benin.

The writing of Le Clézio takes us into a universe of sensations, impressions and his words unfold a poetry of the senses, a music, a rhythm. It is then an initiatory journey and we let us perhaps, little by little, be this little boy and reconnect with this country  trees, wherever they are. Maybe it’s our inner forest, which we must re-learn to tame, whistling softly possible, one or two notes, listening to the noise leaves that shake in the wind?
