Building on the installation Place Echoes, this evening performance transforms the voices of five hacked Amazon Echo speakers into a collective live experience. Accompanied by a new electronic score performed in real time, the work brings together fragments of speculative fiction that expose the hidden lifecycles of “smart” devices: from the extraction of minerals in Brazil, to the labour of AI moderators in Kenya, factory workers in Taiwan, and distribution centre employees in Ireland.

The performance weaves these voices into an immersive audiovisual narrative, tracing the global circuits of technology, consumption, and waste. Five Echoes stages the broken devices as storytellers, projecting their fictions, memories, and futures into a live environment that reflects on our civilisation’s complex relationship with artificial intelligence, human labour, and the planet.
