Island
2.0 takes us to Tuvalu – the first country threatened with disappearance due to rising sea levels
caused by climate change. In response to this crisis, the archipelago has embarked on an
unprecedented path: becoming the world’s first digital nation. By transferring
its territory and institutions into the metaverse, it seeks to safeguard its
sovereignty, culture and traditions.
Developed through months of interdisciplinary research, the Eddi van Tsui collective explores the
environmental, economic, legal and identity challenges of this techno-digital
response, revealing the hidden connections that shape our contemporary world. An immersive installation that invites the audience into a layered, reflective
visual and sound experience.
