The garden is not only a relaxing green space for us humans, but when designed in a nature-friendly and pollinator-friendly way, it can also directly contribute to the preservation of biodiversity. The goal of this talk is to share the most important approaches to creating a nature-oriented garden at home in a simple and effective manner, without compromising on aesthetic or functional needs.
A vibrant retreat for pollinators such as bees and butterflies – and many other animals – can be created by anyone with little effort and without using pesticides. In addition to the selection, origin, and composition of plants, the talk will also address the care of a natural garden, which has a major impact on the many living creatures that inhabit it. The importance of various structures and the creation of additional nesting aids will be discussed. Lastly, some special species and their specific requirements for a natural garden will be presented.

Speaker: Lisa Siebenaler
Lisa Siebenaler has always been fascinated by nature. Insects and their interactions with plants are especially close to her heart. She shaped her education around this interest, earning a Master of Science at RWTH Aachen University with a specialization in environmental ecology. Since 2019, she has been working in the scientific department of the nature conservation syndicate Sicona, where she focuses, among other things, on awareness-raising and designing nature-friendly green spaces in residential areas, as part of the “Päiperlek” (Butterfly) initiative.
