On 9 October 2024, the National Youth Service (SNJ), the Ordre des Architectes et des Ingénieurs-Conseils (OAI) and Luxembourg Urban Garden (LUGA) held a press conference to announce the launch of the competition for the 5th edition of the Festival des Cabanes, to be held in 2025 as part of the LUGA open-air exhibition. Initiated by the SNJ and the OAI, this competition for construction and architectural creativity is a unique platform for showcasing the ingenuity of young talent.
Georges Metz, Director of the SNJ, chaired the conference, accompanied by Nathalie Schirtz, Deputy Director of the SNJ and Gérald Muller (SNJ). Although Corinne Scheer, SNJ project manager, was absent, Pierre Hurt, director of the OAI, Ann Muller, general coordinator of LUGA, and Jacques Hirtt, administrative and financial director and deputy coordinator of LUGA, were also present.
The main aim of the competition is to bring together young people from different backgrounds around a collaborative project, giving them an opportunity for creative expression and exploring new experiences. The festival also aims to raise participants’ awareness of the challenges of sustainable construction, promote craft trades, and introduce them to the professions of architects and consulting engineers.
Participants will be invited to design and build a temporary hut around the theme of ‘Making the invisible visible’, which will be set up in the Édouard André municipal park. For the six months of the exhibition, the park will be transformed into a enchanting world where imagination, mythology, fairy tales and fantasy come to life. The huts will be on display from 18 July to 3 August 2025.
Register now until 31 December 2024 to take part in the Festival des Cabanes.
