Robert L. Philippart, phd, former UNESCO Site Manager, presents the Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape adopted by UNESCO in 2011.
The Luxembourg Commission for UNESCO is pleased to participate in LUGA, this great celebration of nature. This summer, it is organizing a series of conferences as part of its “Les Rendez-vous de l’UNESCO” event series to present the UNESCO programmes that encourage us to make peace with nature.
Robert L. Philippart, phd, former UNESCO Site Manager, presents the Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape adopted by UNESCO in 2011. In 2024, ‘Luxembourg, old quarters and fortifications’ was nominated ‘champion and leader of historic cities’ by UNESCO for the management of the historic urban landscape. UNESCO considers urban heritage, with its tangible and intangible components, to be an essential social, cultural and economic asset, enabling the sustainable development of cities and promoting social cohesion. It is a key resource for improving quality of life and enabling efficient management of resources.
