On Monday, 5 May 2025, POST Luxembourg issued eleven new special stamps honouring significant events, institutions, and notable figures, including a commemorative stamp dedicated to LUGA. This stamp release is particularly remarkable for featuring two unusual stamps distinguished by their shapes and materials: to mark the occasion of LUGA, POST Luxembourg has issued a special miniature sheet containing a packet of wildflower seeds.

The official presentation ceremony of the philatelic frame took place on 6 May 2025, and was attended by prominent figures. Madame Martine Hansen, Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Viticulture, and Madame Lydie Polfer, Mayor of Luxembourg City as well as Madame Ann Muller, General Coordinator of LUGA, were present to mark the occasion.

The event was moderated by POST Luxembourg representatives, namely Madame Isabelle Faber, Director of Human Resources, Public Relations & CSR, Monsieur Antonio Ferreira, Philately & Numismatics Coordinator, and Monsieur Claude Strasser, CEO of POST Luxembourg.

A stamp that sparks ideas

This stamp was created as part of LUGA 2025, in close collaboration with LUGA a.s.b.l., the Wëllplanzesom Lëtzebuerg initiative, and POST Luxembourg. Designed by Luxembourgish artist Chantal Maquet, the stamp features a seed capsule as the central motif, representing LUGA. But this symbol goes beyond just an image: each stamp also contains a real seedling of wildflowers, offering a poetic and engaging reflection of LUGA’s values of biodiversity, urban nature, and sustainability.

The seeds come directly from Wëllplanzesom Lëtzebuerg, an initiative by the intermunicipal nature conservation union SICONA, which encourages the planting of local and pollinator-friendly plants.

The artist behind the stamp: Chantal Maquet

Chantal Maquet, a multidisciplinary artist who splits her time between Luxembourg and Hamburg, is known for her works that feature enigmatic depth and striking contrasts. Recently, her work has focused on a reflection of nature, a theme that is particularly evident in the creation of this stamp. During her artistic residency in Clervaux in 2023, she invited nature into her creations. The experience gained during this period, particularly around landscapes and gardening, inspired her exhibition Échos saisonniers, which will be presented this summer at the Centre Culturel de Rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster.

LUGA stamp release day

The LUGA stamp, available from 6 May 6 2025, is priced at €1.70. Printed using offset lithography in full-color with a limited print run of 40,000 copies, it also contains a seed capsule within its sheet, allowing the ideas it symbolizes to truly come to life.
