The Luxembourgish artist Mary-Audrey Ramirez (b. 1990 in Luxembourg, lives and works in Berlin) creates experimental works that bear witness to the possibilities and limitations of artificial intelligence (AI). Merging real and fictional worlds, her hybrid characters elicit a sense of fascination and apprehension alike, emphasised by stagings evocative of film sets or video game environments.
Emerging from the hidden maze of the casemates, Blobby and Boo seem apprehensive of the outside world. They are part of the artist’s series of Critters, a constantly evolving group of living creatures of an unspecified nature. Oscillating between cuddly goblins and mutant mogwais, they invite viewers to question basic assumptions and conceptions of sentience.
