Studio Ossidiana is an award-winning practice led by Giovanni Bellotti (b. 1987 in Pavia), Alessandra Covini (b. 1988 in Milan) and Klaas van der Molen (b. 1966 in Bodegraven) working at the crossroads of architecture, design and landscape. The aim of their innovative projects is to promote more nuanced readings of the environment by making room for a wider range of individual and collective experiences.

The Pigeon Tower, shown for the first time at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2021, is a contemporary take on the traditional dovecote. Its metallic “feathers” protect its guests from weather and predators. A functional shelter and an aesthetic landmark that nods to medieval architecture, it encourages us to reflect on the “institutionalised” spaces, such as zoos, aviaries or cages, in which our interactions with animals commonly unfold.
