At the crossroads of key societal and environmental trends, the “Sustainable and Engaged Future” workshops aim to bring scientists and the general public closer together.

Inspired by the model of “science cafés,” we invite participants to engage in open dialogue with experts, ask questions, and express their views during six interactive public discussions. Each workshop is designed as an inclusive space where diverse perspectives are welcomed and valued. We aim to strengthen the connection between society and the University of Luxembourg by promoting direct interaction, openness, transparency, and public engagement. Join us on this exciting journey to bring science closer to the community and work together toward a sustainable and engaged future.

Our second workshop is an inspiring public discussion with Professor Catherine Jones, Tom Becker, and Alexander Skinner, all members of the Department of Geography and Spatial Planning at the University of Luxembourg, on the future of renewable energy systems and their impact on our cities and rural areas. The discussion will be enhanced by a guided tour and an augmented reality experience using our custom app, which allows you to discover imaginative urban solar installations in historic neighborhoods.

As we transition to renewable energy, we face challenges related to the visual, social, and environmental impacts of these changes. These impacts are deeply tied to the sociocultural values that citizens associate with places. Our goal is to address these challenges head-on through open and inclusive dialogue. In our SolarZukunft Living Lab, we invite you to try out our app and share your thoughts on urban solar energy. This hands-on approach will engage residents and visitors in meaningful discussions about the social acceptance of solar panels in culturally significant areas of Luxembourg City.
